The Watkin Times was created to showcase the projects that children from St. Wilfrid’s and Northenden Primary School created during our "The Amazing Watkins" Heritage Lottery Fund project in 2018. Each child was given a copy too as a commemorative of what they had done.
The "newspaper" featured all the elements of the project; The Watkin Banner, the poems and creative writings supported by Manchester Archives+, the theatre productions supported by Drama In Education, drawings and art created with JME-DZYNZ, visits to Rose Hill Woods (Watkin Woods) and the chirch where the graves are and the displays they created in corridors in their schools. All prefaced with wonderful letter from the two school heads.
The pupils at St. Wilfrid's also formed an editorial committee to decide on the look and content of The Watkin Times and spent four hours with Jamie Rennie at JME-DZYNZ making those decisions before he went off to create the final newspaper.
The Watkin Times was the culmination of all the work during the project prior to the exhibition itself where the children came along to perform and see their work in a public display.
