"The Amazing Watkins" Heritage Lottery Fund project in 2018 came to its ultimate conclusion with an exhibition and a lot of fun at the Brittania Country House in January 2019. The Lord Mayor Of Manchester was present to talk to the audience and especially to the school children.
There was an exhibition of the all the different projects that came together under this Heritage Lottery Fund project. The exhibition featured all of the work done with the two primary schools, St Wilfrid's and Northenden Community (see Watkin Times) as well as the physical improvements at Rose Hill Woods. At the Woods A pathway with stepped areas was created and the graves of Edward, Absalom and Elizabeth were restored to their original condition. All of these features were improved under the Watkin Walk part of the project. You can see a short video focused on the graves and park improvements (click here for youtube channel.)
The children of St. Wilfrid's Primary School also came along to reproduce elements of their theatre production with Drama In Education there to lead the performance and to see the culmination of all their efforts. They were very excited to meet the Mayor and stayed for some Chips, Sandwiches and drinks after the show. It was a wonderful day and a perfect end to a lot of hard work over the year.
